Running Thoughts

So I have not written in awhile.. Lots of races have come and gone in the past seven or eight months. Most of last year was about looking for a job because I was laid off. I was able to do some contract work for the summer and fall.  I worried a lot and had doubts about if I would ever find something permanent.   Looking for a job has been a humbling experience. These days it’s more about who you know more than skill set.. I embraced whatever what was thrown at me but had a hard time. Two months ago I found something that I have been really aiming for and quite happy.  I am most thankful for the support of my family and friends for helping me through the rough patches.

In 2015, I ran two half marathons, four 10ks and one 5k.  This was the most racing I have done. I was able to be part of The SF Marathon and Zooma Napa Valley ambassador teams. It wasn’t about time or speed for me. It was just being out there embracing the training and racing. So why do I run and train?  I love running and how it makes me feel. I love being able to see the sun rise during my predawn workouts. Basically running makes me feel alive and proves that I am capable of anything.  Even though some runs do not go as planned, pushing through and knowing when to say when is why I do it. You better believe that there is a big ass smile on my face after a hard run and most likely many F bombs. Same thing when things aren’t ideal in life.. One foot in front of the other.. Day at a time. Hopefully you are lucky to have some awesome friends and family to join you on your journey.

I will be turning forty soon. I joke a lot about entering a new age bracket from getting reminders regarding various medical tests to getting new reading glasses and using anti-aging creams to keep my youthful glow.. The one thought I have about entering my 40s, is gratitude.  I am thankful to be able to experience life the good and bad.. Joy and sorrow.. Every time I lace up my shoes and head out the door, I think how lucky I am to be able to run. How it gives back more than I will ever imagine.  That’s something deep.

This year I will be doing a couple of Brazen Races,  The SF Marathon 1st Half and I am still on the fence about the Modesto 5k.

Hoping all of you are having a wonderful 2016… See you out on the roads.
